Statment of Intent

My plan is to interview as many synesthetes as possible and the results will be presented through a book and a film. What makes this unique is that the end product will show a clear outline of synesthesia being influenced by the popular arts, with a clean and simple aesthetic. The content will show a basic knowledge of synesthesia: the history, the people affected and their outtake of subjective reality. The target market is primarily the creative world (however there maybe a niche market consisting of scientists/psychologists) starting at the age of 16 plus.
I have sourced three people to interview who have a range of different types of synesthesia. I will conduct basic interviews that focus on the initial reactions and emotions of the interviewee. The ideal result of the experiment will present me with an array of colourful palettes, peculiar taste connotations, and amazing impulsive organisation skills. To record my film I will be using a Canon 550D, giving me a chance to be in full control of the depth of field with HD quality. The film will then be shown as an exhibition through the use of 40 Monitors; the audience will be placed in the centre of a circle comprised of the monitors, adding an extra dimension to the event. I will also film this, recording people’s reactions and finishing by interviewing the audience to receive feedback afterwards.
